Cremona proved to be one of the most difficult track of the championship so far. Temperatures in the upper 30s led to tyres wearing out far more quickly than usual and greater driver fatigue. A damp track one morning saw half the drivers fail to complete a heat. Once again Jarrett was not able to put in his best lap time during qualification, which led him to starting mid pack in the heats. On one occasion, this led to him crashing out after contact with another driver.
Originally we thought that the crash in the heats would end Jarrett’s hope of making the final. However, very encouragingly, he managed a top 10 finish in a heat, after dropping back to 20th in the first lap.
The top ten finish meant that a good result in the superheat could see Jarrett through to the final. But another collision in the superheat ended that dream.
While still disappointing that qualification is holding Jarrett back, strong driving in the heats and a top 10 finish show that Jarrett is getting close to being in a final this year, and being ready to be much more competitive in the next year’s season.
