Apologies for the radio silence since September - we have been assessing options for the new season. During September and October we have been travelling to various tracks around the UK to test Ginetta racing cars. This is with a view to compete in the Ginetta Junior Championship next season. Ginetta Junior is for drivers moving into cars aged 14 to 17. With Jarrett turning 14 recently, he was able to compete in the Ginetta Junior Winter Series at the Silverstone National circuit.
Compared to karting, there are less heats, and more racing. The Winter Series was made up of qualifying, and then three races, with the combined point score determining the winner of the event.
There is a lot to learn technique wise, so with Jarrett with very minimal test days and having just passed his ARDS test, this event was always for learning and experience. Ginetta is standing starts, rather than the rolling starts we saw in karting in Europe.
In the Winter Series Race, Jarrett qualified towards the back. In the first race, a poor start left him adrift of the pack. The second race, saw him break away with the pack and be in the mix. And the third and final race saw him getting hit off the track to be last and then making a strong comeback, and put in a creditable 10th finish overall, and 4th among the rookies competing that day. From here on we will be testing some more, both in the UK and Spain, and will likely compete in some karting to keep a competitive edge.
